Bromo Mountain and East Java
One of the most populous provinces in Indonesia is East Java and today we can find various tourist attractions in this province. Yes, East Java province located between Central Java (west side) and Bali (east side) so this province also ideal for many travelers from around the world who wants to seek for legends, myths and wisdoms of Java. The travelers could stay for a night in Jogjakarta and continue the next day to Bromo before they end the journey in Bali or LombokIsland.
As main tourist destination in East Java, Bromo has many things to offer, from beautiful sunrise and sunset to mysterious atmosphere in certain spots. This could be related to the old Javanese who believes that Bromo is a special mountain that became the center of energy in East Java. The name of Bromo came from Sanskrit language “Brahma” which is a name of Prime God in Hindu. The superiority of Bromo can be seen clearly since this mountain “occupied” four regencies in East Java, Probolinggo, Pasuruan, Malang and Lumajang Regency.
With total diameter of the crater reached 700 m and height around 2.392 m (above the sea-level) Bromo has nothing to say just to prove its domination in East Java. Bromo is also famous as one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia along with Krakatau in SundaStrait and Merapi in Magelang, Central Java. Three times Bromo threw the volcanic materials in 20th century and those natural events were sign for people (especially in east java) to live-in harmony with the nature.
Tourist Attractions in Bromo
Having adventure in Bromo means you need to prepare for physical activities since you need to walk to reach the top of Bromo. The temperature and humidity around Bromo also could change dramatically so we need to prepare jacket, long sleeve shirt or sweater to keep our body temperature in normal condition. Don’t worry about the food there, you can find various foods (from snack to main dish) that prepared very well by the local people of Bromo.
For a warm-up during the adventure in Bromo we can choose to join the Jeep Tour of Bromo. This tour recommended for tourist who wants to enjoy every corner of Bromo. We can ask for special spots to take pictures and feel the fresh air fill-up our lungs as the Jeep’s engine roar conquering the Bromo Trail. Done with Jeep Tour then we can continue the excitement by riding a horse around the “sand sea” of Bromo which known as “Poten”. When the horse started to run gently, you will realize why there are many horses prepared for the tourist. Yes, the sensation of Poten exploring (by horse) is worth to try by anyone who visited Bromo either they are domestic tourist of foreign tourist.
Playing sand-board in Bromo could be an ideal choice for adrenaline seekers. Just head to the sand-board launch point and pick the suitable package as you like. The instructors are very gentle and they will help to prepare all gears that will be used for the Bromo sand-board challenge.

Local people of Bromo that known as Tengger tribe will held traditional celebration in “Poten” Bromo as a sign of grateful to God. This unique celebration only can be found in Bromo and you need to see it by yourself to understand why Kesodo (the name of traditional celebration) recommended for all ages. How to reach Bromo Mountain
Practically, there are various ways to reach BromoMountain. The simplest ways is take the direct route from Surabaya to Bromo. This route will take about 6-8 hours (by car/bus) and you can check-in as you arrived in BromoMountain. The second route will be more interesting since you can visit Jogjakarta first then move on to Solo and continue the trip to Bromo. This route will take about 3 days with assumption that you spend a night in Jogjakarta, the next day is Solo and directly go to Bromo.
The third route is from Semarang (although this one is very rare even for local travelers). From Semarang we can take a trip to explore the north coast line of Java and reach Surabaya. This route will take about 4 days to reach Bromo with assumption that we have a gentle trip and drop by in major cities along the north coast line of Java between Semarang and Surabaya.
